IMPACT Pakistan has been taking action to prevent and treat needless disability in the mountainous region of Muzaffarabad and Mansehra since 2006.
Programmes include:
- 16 IMPACT Mamta (Mother and Baby) Clinics provide isolated mountain communities with maternity, child health and general primary care.
- IMPACT Mothers’ Clubs established within the remote communities provide a forum for women to share vital health information, learn the importance of good nutrition, sanitation, cooking skills and basic first aid.
- Health education sessions are established to pass on key health messages to the community.
- Screening sessions are regularly implemented in outlying communities to identify those with needlessly disabling conditions. Men, women and children are then referred to government hospitals to receive treatment.
