Situation Update – COVID-19 – INDIA

As you will have seen from the harrowing news reports, India is amidst a deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health facilities across the country are buckling under the pressure. And with the predicted peak in cases still to come, the situation on the ground is extremely challenging.

IMPACT’s Indian colleagues are working around the clock to help vulnerable people in need.

In Bhavnagar, we are helping to establish a ‘Covid Care Centre’ to treat the poorest patients and ease pressure on local hospitals.

In Pune, our partner hospital has established isolation wards and intensive care facilities to treat the most critically ill.

And although the Lifeline Express hospital train has had to halt its activities during this second wave, it is on standby to offer its services as soon as the government instructs it.

The situation is a stark reminder that COVID-19 remains a global threat.  IMPACTs in Bangladesh, Cambodia and Nepal are also on high alert, with cases in these countries escalating and strict lockdowns currently in place.

How you can help

Our partners urgently require more PPE, life-saving medical equipment and supplies; as well as funds to expand their emergency feeding programmes to reach more people pushed into poverty by the restrictions.

Examples of how every donation helps:

£5 helps distribute hygiene kits to reduce infection rates

£25 feeds a hungry family for one month

£81 provides protective clothing for a frontline health worker

£484 funds an oxygen concentrator machine to support someone who is struggling to breathe

If you feel able to contribute to our efforts, you can find details of how to give here.

IMPACT’s flexible structure and trusted local partners means we can act without the hindrance of bureaucracy and quickly translate donations into direct action on the ground in this rapidly changing situation.
